Laughing Branches is the collaboration between golden-voiced soothsinger Ziloeta and professional dream journalist Jesse Kohn. Their lush harmonies and enigmatic lyrics are carefully crafted to persuade certain animals, plants, and objects to join their band. Human listeners may detect late-60's/early-70's folk influences—Buffy St. Marie, Kevin Ayers, Linda Perhacs, Leonard Cohen...—but if their music qualifies as 'folk', it is only in the original sense of the word: "a host of warriors." Armed with songs about worshipped bushes, lovelorn lizards, existential precarity, teeth, eggs, and oneiric paramilitary operations, Laughing Branches is waging a war on no one knows what exactly. In any case, we, too, are against it.
